Waterlogging has been reported from various places with heavy rainfall in Chennai, where traffic motion has come to a standstill in many places. As a result, Chennai people parked their vehicles on the flyovers to avoid water logging and road flooding. All low-lying Velachery residents took refuge by parking their cars on the Pallikaranai flyover, which shows that the situation was very critical.
The India Meteorological Department has confirmed that the northeast monsoon has set into Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Heavy rain would continue in the said regions only, according to the India Meteorological Department.

As rains intensified, knee-deep waterlogging and flooded roads rendered daily commutes in several neighbourhoods very challenging. The IMD issued its first warnings for heavy to very heavy rain in the Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts on 15 October as eight flights were cancelled and public transport services were partly affected. Southern Railway cancelled four express trains while low passenger turnout led to cancellations of a few domestic flights.
Chief Minister M K Stalin toured affected places and hailed the civic workers who worked sincerely. He even shared tea with biscuits with them, acknowledging their efforts during the downpour. Meanwhile, the government announced October 16 as a holiday for schools and offices in coastal districts and appealed to private companies to allow “work from home” for their employees.
The IMD predicts further rainfall and thundersqualls; the authorities have issued a helpline, 1913, for citizens to report their flood-related problems. With boats put in vulnerable areas and heavy-duty motors pelted out to pump out the water, local officials are actively working to handle the situation and prevent public suffering in these conditions.
Not only Chennai people were forced to park vehicles on the flyover, but they were also informed of and reminded to keep abreast of the weather situation and warned by local authorities.
