The Karnataka High Court grant bail to actor Darshan Thoogudeepa. He is a key accused in the kidnap, torture, and murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy in June last year. Supreme Court slams High court for granting bail to him.
This is the second time in a week that the Supreme Court has rebuked the High Court over the release of the actor. Last week the High Court informed it had failed to practice discretion in granting bail.
Supreme court slams HC on Darshan’s Bail
This afternoon, a bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan said they will not make the same mistake as the High Court. We will not give any judgment for conviction or acquittal.
“Don’t you watched the High Court declared an order of acquittal?” the Supreme Court requested, displeased over the language in the High Court’s December 2024 bail order.
“The way wherein the High Court dictated the order… Very sorry to say. Does the High Court dictate the same kind of order in other cases too?” Justice Pardiwala requested, “What is problem is the reasoning given… “It is, prima facie, a perverse use of judicial strength…” the Supreme Court said. “A trial court room choose making the type of mistake is suitable… However a high court judge!”
High court responds
The high court informed to Supreme Court the trial completed in six months. Darshan Thoogudeepa and 13 others are in jail, charged with the murder of Renukaswamy, who allegedly abducted, tortured, and murdered by the actor’s accomplices after he reputedly released obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, a friend of Darshan.
