Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a strong response to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft charges in parliament yesterday. What was not known is that the 61-year-old pushed through a high fever to lead the government’s counter, sources said.
Shah had a temperature of 102 degrees when he stood up to deliver his speech in the Lok Sabha. Doctors examined him just before the session and gave him medicine to lower his fever, according to the sources.
Amit Shah criticize Congress over vote theft
The senior BJP leader strongly criticized the opposition during his one-and-a-half-hour speech, addressing every allegation about vote theft, the Special Revision Inspection (SIR), and appointments to the Election Commission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Shah yesterday for his “outstanding” speech, which he said presented “concrete facts” and “exposed the lies” regarding electoral reforms.
Gandhi had earlier claimed vote theft on several occasions, referring to it as a “hydrogen bomb.” He even organized a rally ahead of the Bihar elections to promote his allegations. He raised the issue again in parliament during the Winter Session.
Shah Says Double Standards of Congress
When challenged to debate the alleged problems with voter lists, Amit Shah responded by saying that no one would tell him how to speak. He also accused the opposition of having “double standards,” noting that they claim there are irregularities in the existing voter lists while opposing the SIR at the same time.
“The voter lists are perfectly fine when you win; you put on new clothes and take an oath. But when you lose, like in Bihar, you say there’s a problem with the voter list. These double standards will not work,” he retorted.
Shah also argued that the SIR not discussed in parliament, but he agreed to the opposition’s request to show that he was “not running away from a debate.” He mentioned that he spoke with the Election Commission before the discussion in parliament, claiming that Gandhi’s charges not submitted to the election body.
