The controversy surrounding the Delhi Chief Minister’s official bungalow at 6 Flag Staff Road is now heating up as Delhi edges closer to assembly elections early next year. The bungalow was, until recently, the abode of Arvind Kejriwal. The controversial politician is now at the epicenter of a political firestorm. The BJP has slammed Kejriwal for making the government property a “7-star resort” with taxpayers’ money.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has further revealed alleged exorbitant spending on social media. It has termed the residence “sheesh mahal,” equivalent to a palace of mirrors that epitomizes exuberance. Sachdeva revealed that Rs 3.75 crore is spent on luxury additions with Rs 1.9 crore spent on marble and lighting, Rs 1.5 crore on installation and civil work, and Rs 35 lakh on gym and spa equipment.
Criticizing Kejriwal, Sachdeva said that he had promised not to misuse government resources, but still, he used the public fund to build this luxury bungalow. He also pointed out the alternatives of the amount by saying that it can provide 34 DDA flats and 326 e-rickshaws to the weaker sections of the people.
Delhi Chief Minister’s Bungalow Looks Like This
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia rejected the criticism, which he claimed leveled at the former Delhi chief minister’s official bungalow construction. “While Kejriwal built a home, BJP looted crores meant for schools. The real question is, where is the money for education infrastructure? He charged the BJP, which had used the bungalow as a diversionary from important issues such as the formation of schools and the welfare of children.
The Vigilance Directorate’s report confirmed renovation costs of Rs 52.71 crore during Kejriwal’s tenure, fueling BJP’s long-standing criticism. However, Sisodia argued the opposition lacked constructive work to showcase, calling their allegations a diversion tactic.
With elections approaching, the debate over the Delhi Chief Minister’s official bungalow highlights broader battles over governance priorities and accountability.
