Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Plotting to Demolish Delhi Slums Ahead of Assembly Polls

Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Plotting to Demolish Delhi Slums Ahead of Assembly Polls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would demolish slum settlements in the capital if voted to power in the Delhi Assembly polls on February 5. Speaking at a press conference in Shakur Basti, Kejriwal accused the BJP of prioritizing land acquisition over the welfare of slum dwellers.

They want your votes first and your land after the elections,” Kejriwal alleged, terming the BJP’s approach as deceitful and a scam on the urban poor.

Kejriwal Accuses That BJP WIll Demolish Slums Assembly Elections, Did not Do What They Promise

The former Delhi Chief Minister criticized the BJP’s much-hyped ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan’ scheme in particular, terming it ineffective. “In the last five years, they’ve only managed to build 4,700 flats for slum dwellers. Their promises remain on paper,” Kejriwal asserted.

Satyendar Jain, a three-term MLA and AAP leader who is contesting from Shakur Basti, also attended the press conference. Jain is fighting for the fourth time in a row in the constituency. Kejriwal praised Jain’s leadership skills while again promising slum dwellers that the party was committed to their cause.

Kejriwal also alleged that the BJP had planned slum eviction, leaving the families without proper shelter alternatives. This move would throw thousands of families into the street and destroy their means of survival.

Delhi, which will vote on February 5 and see the results announced on February 8, is preparing for a very high-stakes battle. AAP swept 62 out of 70 seats in the last election back in 2020 and hopes for a third successive full-term government.

Allegations by Kejriwal: These are likely to make the political showdown between AAP and BJP even more intense as both parties focus on key voter bases across Delhi.
