For Rosy Neha Singh, briefly called the “Russian Woman from Bihar” on social media, viral fame did not open doors; it closed them. What started as a simple effort to promote her small food business online turned into nonstop trolling, real-world harassment, and eventually, the shutdown of her stall.
In a candid conversation with Aajtak Digital, Rosy shared that a single viral video changed her life in unexpected ways. “People think going viral means instant success. For me, it became a burden I couldn’t carry,” she said.
Russian Woman suffers after video gone viral
Originally from Sonpur in Bihar and now living in Ranchi, Rosy worked as a beautician, but cooking remained her passion. To boost her income, she opened a litti-chicken stall in Ranchi and started posting short videos on social media to attract customers.
The plan worked for a while, but then things took an unexpected turn. Due to her appearance, followers often commented on her videos, asking if she was Russian or from another country. In response, Rosy made a light-hearted video in her local Bihari dialect, clarifying that she was “a pure Bihari girl, not Russian.” The clip, meant purely for humor, went viral.
Chasing views, users abuse
The spike in likes, shares, and comments initially felt validating. Encouraged by the response, Russian Woman started making more videos in a similar style. But the engagement soon took a darker turn.
“When I couldn’t answer every question or stopped making the same kind of content, people turned abusive,” she explained. Trolls flooded her comment sections with personal attacks and inappropriate remarks.
