A bizarre incident occurred when a leopard entered a brewery and drank wine. After consuming the alcohol the leopard forgot that he was a wild animal. The villagers found him and took him back to the forest after they knew that the Leopard drinks liquor and forgets himself.
A video allegedly showing a drunk leopard was shared widely on social media. In the clip the leopard can be seen walking slowly through a forest area. It is surrounded by dozens of people who are comfortably walking beside it. Some even pat its back. One X user wrote while sharing the video, “Leopard drinks liquor and forgets himself.” Similar posts can be found in online archives.

Truth Behind the Video
It was investigated and found that the leopard in the video was not drunk. Instead it was suffering from a neurological disease. A quick reverse search of the video’s keyframes led to the report from August 30, 2023. The report said this video was from Madhya Pradesh’s Aklera village. There was also another video of the incident from a different angle. In this video people can be seen trying to ride the leopard.
Multiple news outlets reported this incident in August 2023. According to reports in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district villagers saw a leopard roaming in the forest area near the Kali Sindh river. They informed the forest department about it and then approached the animal with sticks. But the leopard, being sick,showed no signs of aggression. Because of this they began playing with it. Later the forest department’s team arrived and rescued the leopard.
Leopard’s Medical Condition
On August 29, 2023 the leopard was taken to Indore’s zoo. Upon examination vets found it was feverish and having fits. It was also hungry and dehydrated. While being treated at the Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalay doctors discovered it was suffering from a neurological disorder that affected its memory. India Today’s Dewas correspondent Dharmendra spoke to Dr. Uttam Yadav who treated the leopard. Yadav said the leopard was suffering from a contagious viral disease called canine distemper.

Misleading Social Media Posts
In the Taragarh village a post on Facebook shared on September 4, 2023 claimed a leopard drank alcohol from a distillery and forgot his true fierce nature. The post questioned what would have happened if the leopard had remembered. The 52-second video viewed over 1,000 times shows a leopard walking slowly in an open field with a group of people walking around and prodding it.
Clarification from Authorities
Narmada Prasad Sharma who is a local deputy forest range officer clarified that the leopard was ill and the primary symptoms observed were neurological. He stated, “He is suffering from a mental illness due to which animals forget their original nature.” Uttam Yadav who is the director of Indore Zoo where the leopard was being treated said the leopard’s condition had improved. “The leopard is in much better condition now but is still under supervision. We are hoping to release it back into the wild in a week,” Yadav told AFP on September 12.
