Recently, X Blocks Adult Content due to local laws. If you’re one of the many who bookmarked NSFW posts, you might find yourself seeing the same message repeatedly, “Due to local regulations, this content is restricted on X.”
The restrictions appear to have been implemented earlier today, based on user reports. X hasn’t issued any official statement about this change, but the message indicates it is a regulatory compliance issue, not a global policy shift.
X Blocks Adult Content over pressure by India govt
The Indian government, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has pressured X for months. In January 2026, MeitY sent X a notice asking for the removal of obscene and explicit content, especially AI-generated material produced through Grok.
X responded by blocking around 3,500 pieces of content and deleting over 600 accounts, promising to follow local laws. Today’s geo-block appears to be the next step in that commitment.
Users confirm only region wise block
I did some digging to confirm what’s happening. Searching for NSFW content or visiting profiles known for adult content returns no posts, no previews, nothing at all. X doesn’t even show a notice stating that the content is blocked; it simply doesn’t appear. However, when I turned on a VPN, everything came back. This confirms that this is a region-specific block, not a platform-wide removal.
When someone asked Grok directly, the AI bot replied that X has geo-blocked consensual adult content in India to follow government rules on obscene material. Grok also mentioned that X’s global policy, which has allowed properly labeled adult content since May 2024, remains unchanged.
