Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh has scripted his name in cricketing history by making the third-fastest century in List-A cricket, achieving this feat in just 35 balls. Only Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls) and AB de Villiers (31 balls) have done it faster.
Anmolpreet, walking in at No. 3 in Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Arunachal Pradesh at Ahmedabad, showed a mesmerizing display of power hitting after his captain Abhishek Sharma fell in the second over. His onslaught included 11 fours and eight sixes that simply dismantled the Arunachal bowling. Offspinner Techi Neri took the most damage with an over that went for a staggering 31 runs.
Punjab Cruises to Victory
Powered by Anmolpreet Singh’s blitzkrieg, Punjab comfortably chased down Arunachal’s modest target of 164 in just 12.5 overs, securing a prevailing nine-wicket victory. Anmolpreet was unbeaten on 115 off 45 balls, smashing another six and a four after reaching his ton. Opening partner Prabhsimran Singh also played a supporting part with 35 off 25 balls.
This performance puts Anmolpreet in an elite league with legends, such as AB de Villiers, who has the record of the fastest ODI hundred—31 balls against West Indies in 2015. De Villiers had a List A record for a long time until Jake Fraser-McGurk broke it in 2023 by scoring a ton in just 29 balls for Australia in the Marsh Cup.
Anmolpreet Singh smashes third-fastest List-A century, yet fails to inspire Indian selectors for IPL
Anmolpreet’s good innings come as just a reminder of his huge potential. While he has managed to stay modest in terms of his IPL career, after playing with franchises like the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, his history-breaking knock might reignite interest for IPL teams ironically enough, he went unsold in the most recent edition of IPL auction.
