Young Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi stamped a fantastic performance on Tuesday by winning the Titled Tuesday weekly blitz competition conducted by Chess.com. The 21-year-old emerged as the victor, scoring 10 points out of 11 rounds, where he defeated chess legends and world no. 1 Magnus Carlsen and world no. 2 Fabiano Caruana in consecutive rounds.
In a display of great skill, Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi defeated Carlsen with the black pieces in round 10 and then overpowered Caruana in the final round of round 11. Erigaisi, who had lost just one game throughout the tournament earlier, to American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in round seven, remained fully focused and determined to take the title.
The competition, which attracted over 900 titled players, required participants to adhere to strict fair play rules, including mandatory Zoom calls. Nakamura, who described Titled Tuesday as the “world’s strongest tournament,” also participated but fell short of Erigaisi’s dominance.

The Warangal, Telangana, boy, Arjun Erigaisi, began his chess journey at the BS Chess Academy in Hanamkonda. A former data science student, he dropped out of college in 2021 to fully commit to his chess career.
He was nothing short of extraordinary in rising up the chess world. In 2015, he won a silver medal at the Asian Youth Championship in Korea. He became the first Indian to qualify for the Goldmoney Asian Rapid of the Champions Chess Tour 2021.
2022 was his breakout year because he won the Tata Steel Chess Challengers and was crowned Indian National Champion. In the year 2024, he keeps on winning trophies in the Menorca Open A, the Stepan Avagyan Memorial, and the WR Chess Masters Cup in London.
