KIIT & KISS Stars Make Their Mark at the Asian Games

India showcased outstanding performance at the 19th Asian Games 2023 hosted in Hangzhou, China, achieving a remarkable feat with its best-ever medal haul of 107 medals. Among those who played a crucial role in this historic feat were the talented athletes from KIIT Deemed to be University, who contributed to this glory by winning nine medals, including four gold, fiver silver, and one bronze.

Amit Rohidas Leads India to Hockey Gold

Leading the charge was Amit Rohidas, whose stellar performance helped the Indian men’s hockey team secure a gold medal, bringing immense pride to Odisha and the nation. In athletics, Tajinderpal Singh Toor dominated the shot put event, clinching gold while setting a new Asian record. Annu Rani made history by winning gold in the women’s javelin throw, while Parul Choudhary added another gold to India’s tally in the women’s 5000m race. Parul’s exceptional performance continued as she also secured a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase, while Priti Lamba earned a bronze in the same event.

KIIT Athletes Shine with Nine Medals

Among the silver medalists was Kishore Jena, an emerging javelin thrower from Odisha and a proud KIIT student, who delivered a commendable performance in a fiercely competitive field. Tejaswin Shankar showcased his versatility and endurance in the decathlon, securing a silver medal for India. Sprinter Jyothi Yarraji, another KIIT athlete, brought home silver in the 100m hurdles.

A total of 14 athletes from the institutions represented India across various disciplines. The Indian Rugby 7s Women’s Team featured four players from KISS—Dumuni Marndi, Tarulata Naik, Mama Naik, and Hupi Majhi—an achievement that underscores the institute’s commitment to promoting sports among tribal communities. Additionally, Amlan Borgahain represented India in the 200m athletics event.

The outstanding performances of KIIT and KISS athletes at the Asian Games 2023 are a testament to the institutions’ world-class sports infrastructure, top-tier coaching, and support for young talent.
