Delhi Govt Plans Procurement of MRI and CT Scan Machines for Public Hospitals

The health department of the Delhi Govt plans to buy new diagnostic equipment. This includes 12 MRI machines, 20 CT scan machines, and 30 ultrasound machines for installation in government hospitals throughout the capital, according to Health Minister Pankaj Singh.

He said, “To help Delhi residents access essential diagnostic services more easily and affordably, the government is preparing to purchase these machines for its hospitals. The tender issued in the coming days.”

Health department officials mentioned that the procurement process will start soon. After that, the machines expected to installed by March. The government will seek bids, and the contract will go to the lowest bidder, the company that offers the best price, according to an official from the health department.

Last year, the government announced that all 36 Delhi government hospitals would have radiological diagnostic facilities, including MRI and CT scan services, by March 2026. This will happen under a public-private partnership (PPP) model that provides tests at reduced rates.

Procure machines to 36 govt hospitals

Reiterating this commitment on Friday, he said all 36 hospitals would offer MRI and CT scan services within the next few months under the PPP model.

In October last year, it reported that there was a long waiting period for MRI and CT scan services at Delhi government hospitals. An HT ground report found some patients scheduled for MRI appointments as late as 2028.

At the moment, only three Delhi Govt hospitals, LNH, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB Pant), and Indira Gandhi Hospital provide MRI and CT scan services. Officials at the latter two hospitals noted that waiting times already range from three to six months and could increase further as patients redirected from LNH seek appointments there.
