Galgotias University issued a press release announcing its investment of over Rs 350 crore in artificial intelligence. It claimed this was the largest AI investment ever made by a private university in India.
Galgotias AI robotic investment led controversy
The statement had an ambitious tone, suggesting that this move would enhance India’s competitive stance alongside major players like the United States and China. It mentioned NVIDIA’s DGX H200 supercomputing platform, Centres of Excellence with NVIDIA, Tata Technologies, IIT Mandi, and HCLTech. It also detailed an AI complex aimed at changing how artificial intelligence is taught, researched, and applied at scale.
CEO Dr.DhruvGalgotia commented, “When Indian institutions invest at this scale, India’s global leadership in AI is no longer an ambition. It becomes inevitable.”
Just ten days later, at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the situation looked quite different.
A phenomenal turnout, with early errors
The AI Impact Summit began on Monday with a phenomenal turnout, featuring packed halls and long lines that showed the scale of interest in India’s AI goals. Organizers reported over 70,000 attendees, calling it one of the biggest AI events worldwide.
However, the large crowd revealed some coordination issues on Day One. Laptops were not allowed at the venue, and the Expo was briefly closed before the Prime Minister’s visit, leaving many visitors confused.
Despite this, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw apologized for the issues on the opening day, saying, “If anyone faced any problems yesterday, we apologize for that.” He described the overall response as “phenomenal” and noted the energy was “palpable.”
