A latest update has launched to Google Maps, and introduce the new AI feature, called “Ask Maps”. It is powered by Gemini AI models and turn platform from basic navigation tool into planning assistant and advanced local discovery.
Google Maps Get Power of Conversational Search
“Ask Maps” allow the users to pose complex, natural-language questions. For example, someone might ask, “Where can I find a quiet café with vegan snacks and a place to charge my phone?”
By analyzing data from over 300 million locations and insights from 500 million global contributors, the AI delivers clear, relevant answers along with a customized map view. It also remembers user preferences, such as a preference for vegetarian food, to improve its recommendations.
Beyond Navigation: Immersive Driving
The update also introduces “Immersive Navigation,” which features a 3D visualization of routes. Drivers can see realistic images of buildings, terrain, and important road details like traffic lights and lane markings. Furthermore, voice guidance improved to sound more natural, using landmarks rather than just distances.
The “Ask Maps” feature of Google Maps currently rolled out on Android and iOS for users in India and the United States. Initially available only in English, Google confirmed that support for Hindi and other regional languages is expected soon. This will make these advanced AI tools accessible to more people across the subcontinent.
