Google is about to make its largest direct investment in India’s digital economy, and it is planning to invest $10 billion to establish a huge 1-gigawatt (GW) data center cluster in Visakhapatnam, according to reports.

This deal will be Google’s first investment of this kind in the country and expected to finalized on October 14. Key Google executives will meet with Andhra Pradesh IT and electronics minister Nara Lokesh in New Delhi to finalize the details, as reported.
The large facility will consist of three separate data center campuses, located in Adavivaram and Tarluvada villages in Visakhapatnam district, as well as Rambilli village in the nearby Anakapalli district. These campuses scheduled to start operations by July 2028.
Wait for AP State Investment Promotion Board approval
The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is likely to approve this huge investment proposal as early as Wednesday. Naidu’s proactive approach, including suggests changes to the Information Technology and Copyright Acts to promote “data cities,” has helped the central government draft a policy framework for data centers.
The investment of Google comes as major tech companies continue to drive record demand in the Indian market. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google together represent about 30% of the country’s data center demand, a number expected to rise to 35%, according to Anarock Capital.
