Passport Seva 2.0: Indians and NRIs in UAE can apply for new chip-enabled e-passports

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi has announced a new passport system that will provide e-passports with embedded chips to all Indian nationals in the UAE starting October 28, 2025. The new Passport Seva Programme, called GPSP 2.0. The Passport Seva 2.0 marks a significant improvement in passport services for the Indian expatriate community.

The main feature of this upgrade is the introduction of e-passports with embedded microchips. These chips store digitized information about the passport holder. The new passports allow for quicker and smoother processing at immigration checkpoints worldwide, meeting international biometric passport standards.

Beginning October 28, all passport applicants must use the new online portal at mportal.passportindia.gov.in/gpsp/AuthNavigation/Login to access passport services. This change is mandatory for all Indian expats seeking passport-related services in the UAE.

The GPSP 2.0 portal includes several convenient features to simplify the application process. Applicants can upload ICAO-compliant photographs, signatures, and supporting documents directly through the online portal before their appointment. Embassy officials encourage applicants to use this pre-upload feature, as it can significantly reduce waiting times at physical service centers. Detailed guidelines for preparing ICAO-compliant photographs are available on the Embassy’s website.

New upgrade in passports reduce minor errors

Another key improvement of Passport Seva 2.0 addresses a common frustration for applicants. In the past, any errors in applications often meant complete resubmission. The new platform allows BLS service providers to make minor corrections to submitted applications, so applicants do not have to fill out entire forms again. This correction service is free of charge. The upgrade impacts the entire Indian expatriate community in the UAE that needs new passports, renewals, or other passport-related services.
