PM Modi Marks 10 Years Success of Digital India, Principle for Aatmanirbhar Bharat

On the 10th anniversary of the Digital India initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an in depth blog highlighting how the programme has transforms lives and empowered every phase of society. In the blog titled ‘A Decade of Digital India’, PM Modi said the initiative is not only a central government programme however a ‘people movement.’  It is principal to building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and to making India a reliable innovation partner to the world,” he said.

Digital India launched in 2015

Launched in 2015, Digital India aimed to carry government services online, enhance digital infrastructure, and make technology accessible to all citizens. According to the PM, what started as a vision to bridge the digital divide has now become a powerful device for inclusion and transparency.

PM Modi wrote that internet get access to has grown from just 25 crore users in 2014 to over 85 crore today. The country laid over 42 lakh kilometres of optical fibre cables, and India has become one of the quickest international locations in rolling out 5G services, with over 4.8 lakh 5G base stations set up in  years.

More than Rs 34 lakh crore has been transferred at once to residents through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, saving almost Rs 3.5 lakh crore by removing middlemen.

Digital India initiatives highlights the impact of digital systems, the PM said UPI has enabled over 100 billion real-time transactions each year, while initiatives like DigiLocker, CoWIN, and PM-WANI have made services quicker and less complicated. DigiLocker now has over 54 crore customers and buy more than 775 crore files.

He also said how the SVAMITVA scheme is using drones to map rural land and give property cards to villagers, assisting them access loans and end land disputes.
