Post 11,000 Job Cuts, Accenture Makes AI Usage Mandatory for Appraisals

Artificial intelligence is changing how we work, and companies want employees to embrace it. Accenture has announced that promotions for senior staff will now depend on how much they use AI in their jobs. The message is clear, those who not use AI will be left behind.

The company has informed associate directors and senior managers that advancing to leadership roles will require regular use of AI tools through an email. In other words, if you don’t use AI, you probably not get promoted.

Accenture mandate AI usage for Appraisals

Accenture is not alone in pushing for AI adoption. In June 2025, Microsoft told its employees that using AI is no longer optional. Executive Julia Liuson informed managers that they should consider AI use in performance reviews. A few weeks ago, Microsoft CEO SatyaNadella reportedly warned senior executives they might want to leave the company if they did not support its AI goals.

How will company track AI use?

The Accenture company plans to monitor how employees use its AI tools. This will involve tracking log-ins to in-house AI platforms like the AI Refinery. Accenture will have a clear view of who is actually using AI at work.

CEO Julie Sweet previously described AI Refinery as a platform designed to create chances for companies to rethink their processes and operations. AI Refinery developed in partnership with NVIDIA.
