Dream Bazaar Mall in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar area witnessed unprecedented chaos just 30 minutes into its opening day. Built by a foreign businessman of Pakistani descent, the mall attracted huge crowds because of special discounts, available specifically for Pakistani locals.

But then at 3:30 pm, things spiralled out of control. A sea of people stormed the mall, bypassing and overpowering security personnel. The looting began almost immediately as hundreds and thousands of shoppers pushed their way into the building. The security team at the Dream Bazaar Mall was not prepared to deal with such a big and aggressive mob.

Embarrassing Videos started to emerge on social media amid the ensuing chaos. Locals stormed the Dream Bazaar Mall, clamping on whatever they could get. People took branded clothes, electronics, and other merchandise in the frenzy. The view inside the mall was shocking to see including shattered glass and goods spread all over.

Social media is still abuzz with indignation since the brawl ensued. Outrage over the looting incident resulted in shared footage, pointing out the scenes of chaos on the ground. Shockingly, during the time of looting at the Dream Mall, there seemed to be no police presence. The management at the mall attempted to turn back the crowd; however, their job was an uphill task.

According to various reports, the retailers have lost a lot of money as a result of the shoplifting incident. Notably, a Pakistani-origin foreign businessman owns the mall. As per various reports, the owner currently resides abroad. The management of this Karachi’s Dream Bazaar Mall is assessing the total damage, besides appealing for the betterment of security.

The looting of this newly-opened mall has created a dent in the psyche of many around the world as it watched in horror. This raises severe questions about the management of public events and their security in Karachi.
