Elon Musk reveals first look of Tesla’s new self-driving robotaxi

At Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, finally unveiled Tesla’s new self-driving robotaxi at the design level of the company. To create a vivid impression, he arrived at the event wearing a black leather jacket and was accompanied by one man wearing a space suit while driving a futuristic vehicle. The vision for the future of autonomous vehicles has taken centre stage through the Cybercab.

One of the more prominent statements that Musk provided involved the cost associated with Tesla’s new self-driving robotaxi. Cybercab will be priced at less than US$30,000. Thus, it becomes an affordably-priced vehicle in this emerging autonomous vehicle market. That makes it easier for them to become competitors with solutions that offer a more affordable self-driving product.

In a bold move, Elon considers that Tesla removed the steering wheel and pedals from the Cybercab, thus taking the risk away from society to place the actor behind the wheel. The inductive charging technology provides for the vehicle with no need for traditional plugs and combined with the overspecced computer system of Tesla, the vehicle is highly efficient and seamlessly integrated into Tesla’s network of cars.

He also spoke about the mass production of the Cybercab, targeting a start date “before 2027”. Encouragingly so, Musk admits that it’ll be tight to hit all these dates, but is committed to bringing about a “glorious future” in which the Cybercab will change the face of urban landscapes, turning parking lots into green parks, for instead of the personally owned car of the consumer, the autonomous vehicle will be available for ride-sharing fleets when not in use.

Defining why it could be safer than human-driven cars, he asserted that with that amount of training data, it’s obviously going to be much better than a human can be because you can’t live a million lives. According to Musk’s claims, It doesn’t get tired, and it doesn’t text. It’ll be 10, 20, 30 times safer than a human.
