In a shocking incident, a showroom of Ola Electric was burnt down by a disgruntled customer owing to poor service in Kalaburagi, Karnataka. On Wednesday, the police arrested a 26-year-old youngster, identified as Mohammad Nadeem, in connection with the fire incident. Nadeem is said to have resorted to torching the showroom after his complaints over his e-scooter went unheard despite repeated complaints.
This has raised questions about the customer service of the leading e-scooter maker in India. Several mechanics said it takes several weeks to address the complaints of customers as the issues have piled up massively. Nadeem is a mechanic by profession. He had bought the e-scooter last month. Soon, he faced trouble with the vehicle and returned it for servicing. However, what hurts him most is the inaction of the company.
Ola Electric was burnt by a customer who set fire to six bikes
According to the Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa S.D., the fire had caused damage to an extent worth Rs 8.5 lakhs to the showroom. It was an injury-less incident, thank heaven. The police also added:
“The (servicing) response was not good, he went multiple times. Yesterday (Tuesday), when he went, he carried petrol and set fire to six bikes,”
As the showroom of Ola Electric was burnt, it is an indication of growing resentment against its after-sales service despite market dominance. Incidents such as this have come into focus with Ola Electric listing on stock exchanges last month amid challenges being confronted by the company in trying to keep pace with customer requirements.
Locals were stunned to find cloudy and black smoke emanating as a showroom of Ola Electric was burnt. However, the authorities quickly brought things under control. It is yet to be seen if Nadeem will be bailed. Or, if he will carry double the frustration of poor services and jail.
