Tesla has entered the Indian automobile market with launch of showroom in Mumbai. As Tesla gears up for the roads of the world’s third biggest car market, it’ll compete with luxury giants like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, with players like Tata Motors and Mahindra. Located at the Maker Maxity Mall in the BKC, the new showroom seen with police outside on Tuesday as VIP’s made their way for the inauguration.
Tesla Launch Model Y Cars in India
Tesla has planned to sells only one model- Model Y in India. The tech company has already shipped 6 units of the Model Y vehicles to Mumbai from its plant in Shanghai. According to the reports, a 2nd showroom also expected to open in New Delhi by the end of July because of which Tesla multiplied the nearby hiring and secured warehouse space. The deliveries of the cars will start as early as next month.
Features of Model Y Cars
According to the Tesla website, Model Y added in models, consisting of Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The Rear-Wheel Drive will offer a 500 km range and able to cross from 0 to 100 km/h in 59 seconds. The Long Range Rear-Wheel will provide a speed of 622 km and could move from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Both models will include nine audio systems, a 15.4-inch front-row contact display, and 2nd-generation suspension noise discount hardware.
While the rear-wheel power model priced at ₹60.1 lakh ($70,000), the long-range model is priced at ₹67.8 lakh ($79,000). These prices are higher than the prices in other markets. Hefty tariffs are major factors weighing on Tesla’s decision around when to enter the Indian market.
