Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has strongly denied reports that his wedding to fiancée Lauren Sanchez will cost a jaw-dropping $600 million. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the rumors head-on, calling them “completely false.” The reports, which initially appeared in outlets such as the Daily Mail and New York Post, claimed the couple was planning an over-the-top winter wedding in Aspen, Colorado, on December 28.
Bezos was prompted to speak out after billionaire investor Bill Ackman expressed doubt over the alleged wedding cost. Ackman wrote on X, “This is not credible. Unless you’re buying each guest a house, you can’t spend this much money.” Bezos responded by sharing Ackman’s post and calling the claims baseless.
Jeff Bezos $600 million wedding is just a blatant lie
“None of this is happening,” Bezos stated. He also warned against the acceptance of unverified stories, saying, “Lies can get around the world before the truth gets its pants on.”
Lauren Sanchez echoed Bezos on Instagram. She shared his post and added a brief denial: “Not true.”
The initial reports painted a lavish picture of the wedding. The couple planned a winter wonderland theme and booked the high-end sushi restaurant Matsuhisa in Aspen for exclusive use from December 26 to 27. About 180 guests, including big names like Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Queen Rania of Jordan, were reportedly set to attend.
Bezos and Sanchez started dating in 2018 and publicly announced their relationship in July 2019, after Bezos’ divorce from MacKenzie Scott. The couple has made headlines many times, but this latest story seems to be just a media blunder.
