In a statement that would halts India’s aims to become a hub for iPhone manufacturing, US President Donald Trump stated he has requested Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook to prevent manufacturing iPhones in country. Trump also defined India as one of the most tariff countries in the world, making it “tough to sell” products there. The US President made the feedback during business roundtable in Doha, Qatar, as part of his Middle East tour.
Trump Urge Apple to halts iPhone manufacturing
“I had a few problem with Tim Cook the previous day. I stated to him, my friend, I am treating you superb. You are developing with $500 billion however now I listen you are building all over India. I don’t want you constructing in India. You can build in India, if you want to attend to India because India is one of the most tariff countries in the world so it is very tough to sell in India,” Trump said.
His declaration came after Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on May 2 that almost all iPhones to be offered in the United States throughout the June 2025 sector (April to June) can be manufactured in India.
Tariffs Concerns Arise
Notably, Trump had on Monday claimed that the United States used trade as leverage to broker peace between India and Pakistan. “We helped lots, and we also helped with trade. I stated, ‘Come on, we’re going to do a variety of change with you guys. Let’s stop it. Let’s prevent it. If you stop it, we’re doing trade. If you don’t stop it, we’re not going to do any trade,'” Trump had claimed, relating to US discussions with India and Pakistan.
