Accidental Car Bomb Red Fort Kills 13, Tied to Pakistan-Based Terror Groups

The explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed at least 12 people and injured many more. It allegedly organized by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) under the direction of its UN-designated leader Maulana Masood Azhar, according to a senior Intelligence Bureau officer.

Pakistan-Based Terror Groups behind bomb explosion at Red Fort

Investigators noted that the Pakistan-based group had built a network of radicalized doctors to plan attacks similar to the Pulwama incident, using vehicles for suicide attacks in the national capital. Officials mentioned that the Delhi blast was similar to the 2006 Mumbai train bombings, which involved locally radicalized individuals carrying out coordinated attacks that resulted in the deaths of 209 people.

The explosion occurred due to an IED placed in a white Hyundai i20, that meant for a bigger attack. The driver, Dr. Umar Mohammad Nabi, was part of a “white-collar” terror group made up of doctors allegedly linked to JeM operatives in Kashmir.

A significant development came with the arrest of Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganai, 35, from Faridabad. He is a native of Pulwama and works at Al Falah Hospital. Ganai allegedly had 2,900 kg of explosives, believed to be ammonium nitrate, along with weapons and ammunition taken from 2 rented houses. His questioning led to the arrests of Dr. Adeel Majeed Rather from Kulgam and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed, a medical professional from Lucknow associated with Al Falah University.

Investigators claimed that Sayeed was helping to establish Jamaat-ul-Mominat, a women’s recruitment branch of JeM designed to attract educated professionals. An rifle found in her vehicle before she taken to Srinagar for questioning.
