In a major decision, the special court handling women harassment cases in Ajmer, led by Judge Uttama Mathur, has sentenced Mohammad Ismail (28) to life in prison for an acid attack on a minor girl and her mother.
Ajmer court announce life imprisonment to acid attacker
Mohammad Ismail, the son of Mohammad Haroon, lives in Mhow, located in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district. The court charged him under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 124(1), which deals with causing serious injury with acid. He received a life sentence and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. If he cannot pay the fine, he will face an additional two years of simple imprisonment.
The court also ruled that once the fine is paid, the money should go to the two victims. Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Ajmer must give separate compensation to the victims, following legal requirements, beyond the interim relief of Rs 1 lakh each that was already approved through Chittorgarh DLSA.
Victims get justice finally after year
The incident occurred between April 25 and 26 last year. The woman and her 12-year-old daughter had come from Ajmer and were waiting at the Chittorgarh railway station. On the morning of April 26, they had moved about 200 meters from platform no. 1 toward Bhilwara, where the woman was using the bushes and the girl was sitting on the tracks.
During this time, the accused approached them with a backpack and a cold drink bottle filled with acid. He threw the acid on the girl’s face. When the mother tried to intervene, he splashed the acid on her as well and then fled. Both victims were taken to a hospital in Chittorgarh for treatment. The attack permanently blinded the minor girl, and her mother suffered severe burns and intense pain.
