Two Australian Women Cricketers, participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, were reportedly stalked and molested by a man on a motorcycle in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday, October 25. The incident happened on Thursday, just two days before Australia’s key match against South Africa in the tournament.
Aqeel khan molests the Women Cricketers
The police reported that while both cricketers were being followed, one of them was allegedly molested by Aqeel Khan. This incident took place on Khajrana Road on Thursday morning, as the team was walking from the Radisson Blu Hotel to a café.
Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi informed the media that after leaving their hotel, the two cricketers noticed a man on a motorcycle following them. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately before riding away.
Accused arrested
An official mentioned that a bystander had recorded the suspect’s motorcycle number, which led to the arrest of Aqeel Khan. Officer Raghuvanshi added that Khan has previous criminal charges against him, and an investigation is ongoing.
Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, expressed gratitude to the police for their quick response. “It is a very unfortunate incident. This type of incident brings disrepute. We appreciate the State Police of Madhya Pradesh for their prompt action to catch the culprit. Let the law take its course to punish the offender,” Saikia was quoted by news agency ANI.
