Police CID (Security) Intelligence on Tuesday arrested a suspected Pakistani undercover agent from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The accused, Mahendra Prasad (32), became employed as the DRDO Guest House manager on the Chandan Field Firing Range. He was allegedly in contact with a Pakistani intelligence handler and was leaking sensitive information about India’s defence activities.
CID (Security) IG Dr. Vishnukant said that in view of Independence Day celebrations, Rajasthan CID Intelligence has been maintaining surveillance on anti-national and subversive elements.
CID detained DRDO Guest House manager
During this tracking, data surfaced about Mahendra Prasad, a contractual employee at the DRDO Guest House. A local of Palyun, Almora (Uttarakhand), he was suspected of engaging in espionage. Investigations found out that Prasad was in touch with a Pakistani intelligence company by social media.
He was allegedly providing his handler with information about the action of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officials who visit the Chandan Field Firing Range for missile and weapon trials. This facility in Jaisalmer is a crucial site for testing the strategic defence system. Following his detention, Prasad undergoes joint interrogation by security groups, and his phone was subjected to a complete technical analysis.
Manager sharing sensitive data to Pakistan ISI
The research confirmed that DRDO Guest House manager had shared sensitive data associated with DRDO operations and Indian Army activities together with his Pakistani handler. Based on the proofs, CID Intelligence officially arrested Mahendra Prasad on charges of espionage.
Authorities are probing the extent of the safety breach and whether or not others were aware of the data in the network. The arrest highlights the ongoing threat posed by intelligence operations focused on India’s strategic institutes.
