Mumbai Police arrest a man for allegedly raping his 20-year-old daughter, who has a mental disability, after DNA tests confirmed his involvement.
The case came to light in October 2025 when doctors at a local hospital notified the police. They treated the woman, who is also deaf and mute, for abdominal pain and discovered she was five months pregnant.
Father raped her deaf daughter in Mumbai
Due to her communication challenges, investigators found it hard to understand what had happened or identify those responsible. During the investigation, police suspected she had been sexually assaulted multiple times. They collected DNA samples from around 16 people, including relatives and others nearby, as part of a broader inquiry. The woman later had an abortion, and foetal samples were sent for forensic analysis.
Father DNA matched out of 16 DNA
On January 27, forensic experts reported a DNA match with her father, 48, leading to his arrest this week, according to police. Mumbai police noted that two other individuals, a 16-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man arrested after the woman identified them using visual aids. A chargesheet has already been filed against those two suspects. However, the recent forensic findings also show the father’s alleged involvement.
Police said that the woman did not name her father out of fear. During counselling sessions, with the help of a child rights and disability support organization, she revealed that he had also assaulted her. Investigators believe the abuse occurred at home and in isolated places when she was alone. Police are looking into whether others may have exploited her vulnerability.
