The Gujarat ATS dismantled a suspected terror group in Ahmedabad by arresting three operatives linked to the Islamic State. One of those arrested is a ‘doctor’ with a Chinese MBBS degree who was allegedly preparing ricin, a highly dangerous chemical poison considered even more lethal than cyanide.

The individuals, identified as Azad Suleman Shaikh, Mohammad Suhail, and Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, were reportedly planning to trade weapons for a potential terrorist attack in Gujarat and other parts of India.

According to officials, Shaikh and Suhail had gathered arms from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan and hidden them in a graveyard in Gandhinagar. Mohiuddin supposed to retrieve the weapons and transport them to Hyderabad for further action. However, the Gujarat ATS acted quickly and arrested Mohiuddin before he could leave for Hyderabad with the arms night. A senior police officer from Gujarat explained to India Today how the operation worked: “Two different models were at play: the man from Hyderabad came to collect the weapons. If he not do that, two others from Uttar Pradesh supposed to deliver them to him.”

Planning for major terrorist activities

In the ongoing investigation, the police found that Mohiuddin holds an MBBS degree from China and is in contact with Abu Khadim, a member of the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISKP), a regional branch of ISIS. Khadim reportedly tasked Mohiuddin with funding anti-India activities.

“Dr. Ahmed Mohiyuddin Syed highly educated and radicalized. He planned to raise funds and recruit people as part of a plot to carry out major terrorist activities,” Gujarat ATS DIG Sunil Joshi told PTI. The police also uncovered that Mohiuddin was working to produce a dangerous poison from cyanide. They are now investigating to trace the source of the arms.
