Calcutta police give update on IIM Calcutta Rape case and said that a 9-member special investigation (SIT) has formed to investigate the matter. On July 12, the main accused, Mahaveer Toppannavar alias Parmanand Jain, sent to 7-day police custody till July 19. The DC Southwest Division has formed a 9-member special investigation team for the investigation into the case.
According to a records, the accused was arrested on Saturday after a women, medical psychologist, lodged an FIR lodged at Haridevpur police station. “We asked for police custody, and the accused requested for bail. The main investigation indicates that crime was committed, and the medical proofs helps the victim. The court granted police custody till July 19, ”Calcutta Police Chief Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal said.
Woman’s father dismisses IIM Calcutta Rape claims
The alleged incident occur in the boys’ hostel of IIM Calcutta by student on Friday. However, the woman’s father claimed that the incident did not occurs. While briefing reporters on Saturday, he said that his daughter suffered from such incidents.
The girl’s father state, “I received a call from my daughter round 9.40 pm on Friday. She said me she had fallen from a car, lost attention and suffered accidents. Later, I came to know she was admitted to SSKM Hospital. Nothing of the type that the police are claiming occurred, based on the information I got from my daughter,” PTI said.
Accused on Police Remand
The accused was remanded to police custody after the extra chief judicial magistrate at Alipore court heard each parties. As per the police criticism, the women was called to the hostel by the accused for a counselling consultation, in which she was allegedly assaulted sexually and IIM Calcutta Rape occurs.
