A few days after the incident, named Mukti Ranjan Ray, the colleague of the victim at a clothing factory in Malleswaram, was found hanging from a tree in Bhadrak district, Odisha. Ray was accused of murdering 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, who died after a row with the accused over marriage.
The couple apparently had an affair but relations turned sour when Mahalakshmi allegedly forced Ray to marry her. Investigators feel that Ray killed Mahalakshmi at her Vyalikaval residence due to frustration on her part for demands made by her.
