In a shocking turn of events, Mahalakshmi’s murderer commits suicide. The case was viraled as the man chopped the lady, reportedly his girlfriend, into pieces over a dispute. A few days after the incident, named Mukti Ranjan Ray, the colleague of the victim at a clothing factory in Malleswaram, was found hanging from a tree in Bhadrak district, Odisha. Ray was accused of murdering 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, who died after a row with the accused over marriage.

The couple apparently had an affair but relations turned sour when Mahalakshmi allegedly forced Ray to marry her. Investigators feel that Ray killed Mahalakshmi at her Vyalikaval residence due to frustration on her part for demands made by her.

The body was identified and sent for post-mortem, but the suicide note brought in the necessity evidence. Odisha’s Additional Director General of Law and Order, Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the note disclosed Ray as admitting to the murder of Mahalakshmi.

Mahalakshmi had gone missing from work on 1 September, her dismembered body was found later in her home, and during the postmortem, it was revealed that the woman had been chopped into a record 59 pieces, causing horror across the community.

Toxicology tests are also being conducted on samples of her intestines to check if she was poisoned. As one last bout of closure, the authorities had been closing in on Ray before his eventual taking of his own life.
