A 32-year-old woman who married a Merchant Navy officer five months ago has been killed in her Lucknow home. While her husband claimed that she died by suicide, Madhu Singh’s own family members allege that he torturing her over dowry and murdered her. The accused, Anurag Singh, has been arrested, and police have start their investigation.
A Grand Wedding And Dowry Demands by Merchant Navy officer
Madhu married Anurag on February 25 this year after connecting on a matrimonial website. Anurag worked as a navy officer in a Hong Kong-based management company. At the time of the wedding, he demanded Rs 15 lakh as dowry, Madhu’s family has alleged. WhatsApp chats shared by her own family show Anurag insisting on Rs 15 lakh as dowry. But Madhu’s family are able to give Rs 5 lakh. Anurag, the chats show, tells Madhu’s family that he have “only 150 baaratis”, but that he cannot lower the dowry demand for.
Madhu’s father, Fateh Bahadur Singh, said in his complaint to the police that Anurag forced her for dowry. After Holi, less than a month after the marriage, Anurag assaulted Madhu for the first time, and she returned to her mother and father’s home. Her father then paid the dowry requested for, and Anurag took her back; however, the torture persisted, the bereaved father said in his complaint.
She Finished Her Social Life
Madhu’s sister Priya says she was a active person; however, Merchant Navy officer not want her to speak to anybody. “He not want her to have a social life; he would ask her not to speak to her friends or with us. We would communicate only whilst he was out of city. He killed her for no purpose. He forced her to drink with him,” she said.
