Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of Nepal’s former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal, died on Tuesday, according to media reports. She was trapped at home by Nepal protestors, led by Gen Z, who then set the house on fire.

The incident occurred at their house in the Dallu area of Kathmandu. Ms. Chitrakar taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital but sadly died during treatment, family sources said.
Nepal’s prime minister, KP Sharma Oli, whose own house also set fire, resigned on Tuesday. Protests against a brief ban on social media had become increasingly violent and had turned into broader criticism of his government and accusations of corruption among the political elite in the country. Finance minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, 65, chased through the streets of the capital in a disturbing video. In the footage, he kicked and beaten brutally.
More 19 people Dead in Fire
Demonstrations led by young people upset over the blocking of several social media sites took over the capital a day earlier. Police opened fire on the crowds, resulting in the deaths of 19 people.
The ban was lifted on Monday night, but protests continued. Demonstrators set fire to the homes of some of Nepal’s top leaders and even the parliament building. The airport in Kathmandu closed, and army helicopters transported some ministers to safe locations. Due to frustrated from Nepal protestors, Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli announced his immediate resignation.
The demonstrations, known as the protest of Gen Z, began after the government blocked platforms like Facebook, X, and YouTube, claiming the companies had not registered or submitted to government oversight. Yet even after the sites restored, the rallies persisted, driven by anger over the deaths of protesters at the hands of police and allegations of government corruption.
