A week after an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, a self-recorded video of Delhi Bomber, Dr. Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar-un-Nabi out. In what may be the first insight into the thinking of Delhi’s bomber, the video shows him discussing suicide bombing and “martyrdom.”
Video of Delhi Bomber out, talks about bombing
“One of the most misunderstood concepts is what has been labeled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation, known in Islam. There are multiple contradictions and arguments against it,” he says in the video. He explains that a “martyrdom” operation happens when a person believes they will die at a certain place and time.
Umar also notes that no one can predict exactly when or where they will die, stating that it will happen if it is meant to be. He concludes with, “Don’t fear death.” Suicide is forbidden in Islam, and Umar seems to justify suicide bombing as an act of “martyrdom” in the video.
Video indicate terrorism acts and plotting
In the video, Delhi Bomber speaks English with an accent and articulates his thoughts clearly. His remarks shows he has deeply contemplated issues like suicide bombing and “martyrdom,” shows he has been fully radicalized. This video presents a calm and composed individual defending a terrible act. It also illustrates a new face of terrorism in India: educated, radicalized, and calculated.
The video shows that the Delhi car blast was carefully planned, contradicting any claims that it might have been accidentally set off while transporting explosives.
