A 34-year-old software engineer is found dead in Bengaluru due to suicide. Alongside his body, police recovered a 24-page note and a 1.5-hour video explaining his alleged harassment by his estranged wife and her family. The engineer, Atul Subhash from Uttar Pradesh, had been saying that they had filed multiple false legal cases against him. His younger brother, Bikas Modi, mentioned that Subhash had been fighting nine to ten such cases and felt crushed by the legal system.
According to Modi, he learned about the tragic incident after receiving a distressing phone call at 2:50 AM on Monday. Initially dismissing it as a prank, Modi later found alarming WhatsApp messages and emails from his brother. Subhash had sent contact details and cryptic messages, but Modi thought his account was hacked. A follow-up call from a member of the Save Indian Family Foundation, a men’s rights group, confirmed his worst fears.
Software engineer found dead in Bengaluru, police discovered body hanging
The police took hours to enter Subhash’s house believing he must have left considering that the car was nowhere in his place. Modi went to Bengaluru only to find his brother had killed himself. The body was hanging when he reached that place and was in much distress. “My brother, who always stayed strong, couldn’t fight anymore,” he said.
The suicide note repeated the words “Justice is Due” and put systemic corruption and harassment as reasons to commit suicide. He had also complained about unfair monetary demands, including an average of Rs 40,000 per month in child support in Uttar Pradesh. He accused the law of being wrongly biased and appealed for justice for his brother.
“The more I work hard and become better at my work, the more I and my family will be harassed and extorted and the whole legal system will encourage and help my harassers… Now, with me gone, there won’t be any money and there won’t be any reason to harass my old parents and my brother. I may have destroyed my body but it has saved everything I believe in.”
In a note, Subhash had written how, in case justice remains elusive, his ashes should be scattered in a canal near the court. His family now demands legal reforms and accountability.
