What the police described as a “major narcotics arrest” has revealed as an abuse of power. The Mandsaur Superintendent of Police to appear before the High Court and admit the case made up.

The victim, Sohan, an 18-year-old Class 12 student from Malhargarh, was forcibly taken off a moving bus on August 29. Hours later, the police claimed he caught with 2.7 kg of opium and produced him in court the next day, which led to his imprisonment.

However, CCTV footage, mobile videos, and witness accounts painted a different picture. The evidence showed no drugs, no chase, and no seizure. Instead, it revealed a group of police officers stopping the bus, dragging the student out, and taking him away.

Hearing of police officers in court

During a hearing on Tuesday, the High Court required Mandsaur Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar Meena, to appear in person. Meena admitted that Sohan taken from the bus by Malhargarh police officers. The arrest detailed in the first information report (FIR) did not match the actual time and location shown in the video.

A head constable from Malhargarh led the operation. The case against the student was filed after he was already in illegal custody, and the investigation did not follow legal procedures.

In a major embarrassment for the police, Meena also confirmed that the officers seen boarding the bus, whom the police had previously denied were theirs, were indeed Malhargarh police, contradicting earlier statements from the district administration.
