PM Modi Launches Maruti's e-VITARA In Gujarat for Global Export

PM Narendra Modi is visiting the Suzuki Motor Plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today. He inaugurate the local production of hybrid battery electrodes and launch the export of Maruti Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e-VITARA, to over 100 countries, includes Japan and several European nations.

“On 26th August, at around 10:30 am, the PM inaugurate local production of hybrid battery electrodes. It also start battery electric vehicle exports to 100 countries at Hansalpur, Ahmedabad. He will also speak to the gathering on this occasion,” the PMO said in a statement.

Inauguration of e-VITARA expand exports business

Before inauguration, PM Modi mentioned that today is a special day in the country’s journey toward self-reliance. It become a hub for green mobility.

“Today is a special day in India’s search for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility. At the program in Hansalpur, the e-VITARA will launched. This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is made in India and will be exported to over 100 nations. To boost our battery industry, production of hybrid battery electrodes also start at a plant in Gujarat,” PM Modi said on X.

Development for EV Market in India

This move marks a significant milestone for India’s EV and battery industry. The local production of hybrid battery electrodes starts at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. With this development, over 80 % of battery value will now be produced domestically, which supports India’s green energy and manufacturing goals.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, unveiled the e-VITARA in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. With an annual capacity of 2.6 million units across four Indian plants, the company exported over 3.32 lakh vehicles and sold 19.01 lakh units in the domestic market in FY25. Commercial production of the e VITARA officially begins Tuesday at the Hansalpur plant. With this milestone, India will now serve as Suzuki’s global manufacturing center for electric vehicles.
