Two days after a 16-year-old student from Delhi St Columba School attempt suicide, the school has suspended the headmaster and three teachers. This tragic event has sparked grief, anger, and calls for accountability from parents. The family plans to protest outside the school on Friday.
Family Alleges Delhi St Columba for Persistent Harassment
The student, who had attended the school since Class 2, left a heartbreaking note for his mother. In it, he wrote, “Sorry mummy, aapka itni bar dil toda, ab last bar todunga. School ki teachers ab hai hi aise, kya bolu.” His father, Pradeep Patil, filed an FIR on Wednesday, naming headmaster Aparajita Pal and teachers Julie Varghese, Manu Kalra, and Yukti Aggarwal Mahajan. He accused them of mentally harassing his son and scolding him over minor issues.
According to the FIR, Julie Varghese warned the student for days that he would expelled and receive a transfer certificate. Pradeep also claimed that Manu Kalra once pushed the boy.
School Suspends the Four Staff Members
In suspension letters, Delhi St Columba school Principal Robert Fernandes said that the staff members remain suspended until the investigation is completed. He wrote, “In view of the seriousness of the allegations, the competent authority decided to place you under suspension with immediate effect.”
He instructed the suspended teachers to available for inquiries and prohibited them from visiting the school or interacting with students, parents, or staff without written permission.
