A young Indian student shared his emotional journey of leaving home for higher studies in Germany. He eventually quit mid-course after realizing it wasn’t the right fit for him and started pursuing his true dreams.
In a clip shared by content creator Prathamesh Patil on Instagram, he showed various visuals of his experience. He described leaving home with four suitcases and starting life in a small room with high rent, no deposit refund, and no heater.
Indian student shared the struggles of life in Germany
He mentioned that nine people shared one apartment and seven shared one washroom. Despite these challenges, he kept smiling and continued his studies. Within the first semester, he realized his course was not suitable for him, so he switched to one he felt passionate about. “I packed my life into four suitcases, left my home, and flew to Germany with big dreams,” he wrote in the caption of his post.
“To manage expenses, I worked part-time jobs, cleaning restaurant kitchens and toilets for €8 an hour and meals. From scrubbing floors to cleaning toilets, I did everything I could to survive,” he explained.
How he handle work with studies abroad?
In the reel, Indian student was also seen delivering groceries in 1°C weather, rain, and snow. He worked in supermarkets and warehouses, where he claimed salaries often came late or weren’t paid in full.
“Some months, I didn’t even get paid properly, but I couldn’t afford to stop,” he added. Along with these jobs, he attended lectures, managed exams, learned German, cooked for himself, and applied for internships.
“The struggles intensified when visa extension issues forced me to move cities. But that move led to another setback. I got scammed by my landlord, lost a large amount of money, and ended up homeless,” he said. According to Patil, those nights were the hardest. “But I didn’t give up,” he wrote.
