The Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework (KIRF) 2025 placed Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) at the top of the University category. Rajagiri College of Social Sciences ranked first. College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram (CET) led the Engineering rankings.
KIRF 2025 Rankings: Kerala Universities and Top Institutions
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu announced the results of the second KIRF rankings at a press conference in Thrissur on Monday. In the Universities category, CUSAT scored 87.346 points, followed by Mahatma Gandhi University with 82.288 points and Calicut University with 72.858 points. All 11 participating universities qualified for a ranking this year.
Kerala University ranked 5th nationally in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It ranked second under KIRF last year, and not participate this year. The Minister, in a subtle critique of the university’s Vice Chancellor in charge, MohananKunnummal, suggested that the lack of initiative led to the institution’s absence.
Announcement, Participation, and Notable Absence
The Arts and Science segment had the highest participation with 275 institutions. It ranked the top 100 colleges individually, while the rest fell into rank bands 101-150 and 151-200. Rajagiri College of Social Sciences in Ernakulam took first place with 65.152 points, followed by St. Teresa’s College in Ernakulamand Vimala College in Thrissur.
In Management, Rajagiri Business School in Ernakulam secured the first rank. Nirmala College of Pharmacy in Muvattupuzha topped the Pharmacy category, while MIMS College of Nursing in Malappuram led in Nursing. Farook Training College in Kozhikode ranked first in Teacher Education. In the Agriculture and Allied sectors, the College of Agriculture in Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram, secured the top position.
