The 10th edition of the NIRF Ranking 2025 has announced. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has ranks at No. 1 spot in the overall category for the 7th year in a row. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the rankings during a live event, sharing the list of top colleges and universities across the country.
NIRF Ranking 2025 Colleges List Release as per category
This year, institutions are ranked in 17 categories. These include engineering, management, medical, law, pharmacy, agriculture, and research. A new category for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been added to support India’s commitment to global standards.
The NIRF 2025 results delayed because the Madras High Court imposed an interim stay due to concerns about transparency and discrepancies in the data that institutions submitted. In response, the Ministry of Education implemented stricter rules, added more evaluation criteria, and introduced negative marking for research paper retractions to ensure credibility. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) created the rankings, listing the Top 100 institutions, along with rank bands of 101-150 and 151-200.
Top Institutes ranked
In this latest edition of NIRF Ranking 2025, the Ministry of Education received over 10,800 applications from higher education institutions across the country. With IIT Madras maintaining its top position, the rankings once again showcase India’s leading centers of excellence in higher education.
