An 18-year-old student from Karnataka, who recently took the NEET examination, died by suicide last week after lying to her family about scoring 92 % in Class 12. Bhagyashree took the NEET exam on May 2. A few weeks later, she found hanging at home.

She had told her father that she scored 92 % in the Class 12 PUC examination, the results of that released on May 21. After her death, Bhagyashree’s father, Rajashekhar, said that she was doing well in school. “She passed the PUC exam with 92 %.
There was no stress or problem in our family. We were living happily. She performed well in NEET, and everything seemed fine. Maybe she had some thoughts about retaking the exam,” he said.
Stress due to fails in 12th exam
However, when he checked her Class 12 marksheet online, he find a different story—Bhagyashree had failed the exam. In Physics, she scored 45 marks, including 30 internal marks. In Mathematics, she managed a total of 24 marks, with 20 internal marks.
Officials noted that the student had high hopes for her Class 12 results. “She was happy with the family. She told us she scored 92 % in PUC. Now she is gone… whom should we blame?” an emotional Rajashekhar told the media. The grieving father also mentioned that the family does not want to blame anyone for the situation. A case has filed at the Station Bazar Police Station. Authorities have not yet found any suicide note.
There have been several student suicides linked to the recent cancellation of the NEET -UG 2026 exam. On May 16, a medical aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Rajasthan. The student’s family said he had done well in the exam and expected around 650 marks, but felt distressed after the test was canceled.
