The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) plans to release the provisional answer key soon after the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations. This change replaces the current practice of waiting until the entire examination process is complete. The Commission announced this in a counter-affidavit filed with the Supreme Court in response to a petition challenging the existing method.
UPSC release CSE provisional answer key immediately
Earlier, the court appointed senior advocate Jaideep Gupta as amicus curiae to help with the case. Advocate Pranjal Kishore was also appointed to assist him. The amicus suggested publishing a provisional answer key for the preliminary examination one day after it is held.
In an affidavit dated May 13, the Commission said that implementing this suggestion could be counterproductive. They expressed concern that it might create uncertainty and delays in finalizing the exam.
What the petition stated
The petition, submitted by advocates Saroj Tripathi and Rajeev Dubey, argued that there is no clear reason to release the marks, cut-off marks, and answer keys for the Civil Services (Prelims) examination only after the entire UPSC Examination process is over. They claimed this practice frustrates the ability of unsuccessful candidates to seek genuine remedies.
