5% reservation for Muslims scrapped in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has cancelled the 5 % reservation for the Muslims community in jobs and education. A Government Resolution (GR) issued yesterday since the previous ordinance for this reservation lapsed. The court placed an interim stay on the decision.

Maharashtra cancelled 5% reservation for Muslims

The earlier Congress-NCP government issued an ordinance that provided a 16 % quota for Marathas and 5% for Muslims. According to the new GR, all previous decisions and the ordinance regarding the 5% reservation in government and semi-government jobs and in educational institutions, for the socially and educationally backward Muslim group in the Special Backward Category (A) has cancelled.

The new order states that the government withdrawn earlier decisions and circulars from 2014 and has stopped issuing caste and non-creamy layer certificates to Muslims under the Special Backward Category.
