Parliament Passes Labor Code Amendment Amid Limited Nationwide Strike

Lok Sabha adjourned for the day on Thursday after chaos erupted over BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s comments about Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Lower House of Parliament meet again today.

Dubey spoke in the Lok Sabha and accused Rahul Gandhi of undermining the country’s constitutional institutions. He called for a serious action to revoke Gandhi’s parliamentary membership and to prevent him from running for elections for life, which led to heated reactions from Opposition MPs.

Parliament Disrupted After Nishikant Dubey’s Remarks on Rahul Gandhi

“He acts like an urban naxal. He travels abroad only to meet with traitors. He questions crucial institutions, including the Election Commission, the Speaker of the House, the Constitution, and the Supreme Court. I urge you to consider the motion so he can banned from the House and barred from standing for elections,” Dubey claimed.

Passes Labor Code Amendment

Earlier, the Lower House of Parliament passed ‘The Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026’ after several hours of debate. The Bill aims to change the Industrial Relations Code, 2020.

In response to the discussion before the Bill’s passage, Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said the Bill ensures appointment letters issued to young people.

“Every youth who gets a job must receive an appointment letter without exception,” he said in the House. “Anyone who secures a job will also get an appointment letter, providing written proof of their terms of employment. There not a wage gap between men and women for equal work; there were no legal restrictions on this before. The Labour Code guarantees equal pay for equal work,” he added. Two and a half months have passed since the Labour Code took effect.
