The Railway Board in a major policy update has revised the educational requirements for Level-1 posts, hitherto Group D, throughout Indian Railways. Candidates can now be accepted based on completing Class 10, holding an ITI Qualification in Group D, or being equipped with the same equivalent certificates, such as the National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by NCVT.
Earlier, the eligibility criteria for technical positions were more stringent and included a Class 10 pass along with an NAC or ITI diploma. This relaxation is quite wide, and skilled workers will find it easier to access railway jobs.
Further regulations for ITI Qualification In Group D
It had further directed all the zones to enforce the revised rules through a circular dated January 2. “The Board has decided that the minimum qualification for all future recruitments in Level-1 posts, including the upcoming Centralized Employment Notification (CEN), will be Class 10 pass, ITI, or NAC granted by NCVT,” the statement read.
Level-1 categories include track maintainers, various department assistants, and pointsmen. The promotion is aligned to the growing recruitment process with vocational training candidates for the jobs on offer, enhancing the value an ITI qualification brings to these Group D categories.
The Railway Recruitment Board has also scheduled an open recruitment drive for filling the approximate 32,000 level-1 positions. Applications can be submitted between January 23 and February 22, presenting a significant source of employment opportunities for those in possession of these skills, primarily ITI qualification in Group D.
This indicates that the Railways have decided to emphasize practical skills as well along with basic education, making its hiring process even more inclusive of technical positions.
