As much as Netflix had been teasing us with its much-awaited crime thriller Do Patti, which stars Kajol and Kriti Sanon, has finally hit the streaming giant. With a lot of anticipation built into the plot and even the two actresses seen pulling off double roles, the movie fell flat as it could have done. As watchers share Do Patti review, Kajol plays the role of a tough cop investigating her first murder case and a zealous lawyer who wants to prove the guilt of the accused. On the flip side, Sanon appears in twin sister personas, Saumya and Shailee, alongside Kajol. Unluckily, the interest in the twin sisters fails to build up, also indicating the filmmakers’ poor budget.
Playing the role of Saumya in Do Patti, Kriti Sanon more sober shades of grey are featured. Kajol looks confident in her two avatars. Yet, poor storytelling cannot, however, be rescued even by the well-songs of the strongly performed duo. Although suspenseful at times, it fails because it doesn’t fully delve into the classic mistaken-identity trope which could have been well-fleshed out in Sanon’s characters. Instead, it focuses on the rivalry of the two twin sisters over Dhruv (portrayed by Shaheer Sheikh), to fight over a common love interest.
Do Patti Review: The film flops despite a good cast
With strong performances put out by both Kriti Sanon and Kajol, it is sad to say that Do Patti does not make use of it the way it could have. Shaheer Sheikh makes Dhruv look intense, and the jobs that Tanvi Azmi and Brijendra Kala have done justice to. However, with a good cast in place, the impending film misses out on the suspenseful edge that makes an audience return to a thriller and feels more like a missed opportunity rather than an engaging drama.
Directed by newcomer Shashanka Chaturvedi and written by Kanika Dhillon, Do Patti could have been a film built around a dramatic premise. Unfortunately, it does not bring anything new to the very high slew of crime thrillers on streaming platforms. The script by Dhillon covers very important issues but does not provide the depth that today’s viewers demand; as a result, Do Patti review feels unremarkable despite the intriguing setup.
It is an apparent mix of suspense and family drama set against the beautifully fictional backdrop of Devipur in Uttarakhand. Do Patti, unfortunately, didn’t make much use of the stunning locations that could have been utilized to their fullest advantage. Potentially, with its premise, this thriller would have gone down memory lanes. Instead, with underwhelming direction and the lack of narrative depth, make the film feel outdated in these changing times.
The verdict? Do Patti is unlikely to keep anyone but the most hardcore fans of Kajol, Kriti Sanon, or Shaheer Sheikh glued to it. Despite the much-heralded film promising much, it is ultimately squandered by an underwhelming ability to make a mark as it adds another thriller to Netflix’s long list.
