In an emotionally charged session, PM Modi met the Kapoor family as they extended an invitation to him for the inaugural of the Raj Kapoor film festival. The family, which comprised Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Karisma Kapoor, maintained a cordial discussion with the Prime Minister and himself showed interest in visiting them.
Reflecting on the encounter, Saif Ali Khan expressed thanks. “You are the first Prime Minister I’ve met, he said, praising Modi’s hard work and approachable demeanor. Saif thanked the PM for both making the effort to connect personally with them and for being easy to contact. Saif’s hindi statements read:
“Aap pehle Pradhan Mantri hai jisse main mila hoon. Aur aapne aankhon mein aankh milake, personally humse mile and do baar mile hai. Aap mein itni achi energy hai aur aap itni mehnat karte hai. Aur aap jo karte hai, main aapko congratulate karna chahta hoon (You are the first Prime Minister that I have met. You have spoken to me while looking into my eyes and met me twice. Your energy is so good and you work so hard. I want to congratulate you in whatever you do).”
PM Modi meets Kapoor family, questions why they didn’t bring Taimoor and Jeh
During the carnival, PM Modi recalled meeting Saif’s father, the late great cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. With a playful tone, he added, “I thought I’d meet the third generation today.” The comment sparked laughter, as Kareena and Karisma explained they couldn’t bring Taimur and Jeh along. To compensate, later Kareena disclosed that she arranged PM Modi’s autograph for her sons.
The meeting took place in the run-up to the hugely anticipated Raj Kapoor Film Festival marking the 100th anniversary of the legendary actor-director. Taking place from December 13 to 15, the festival will present 10 restored classics, i.e., Mera Naam Joker, Sangam, and Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The screenings will be carried out at the premiere locations, PVR-Inox and Cinepolis theatres, Mumbai, and the ticket rate will be ₹100.
Modi’s meeting with the Kapoor family echoed his desire to draw people from all walks of life. The dialogue was saturated with nostalgia, humor, and its own warmth for the cinematic history of India. As Saif Ali Khan put it, the Prime Minister’s warmth left a lasting impression on the Kapoor family.
