Bollywood is currently experiencing a dry spell at the box workplace, with only two films this year handling to succeed. In an interview, actor Randeep Hooda slams Bollywood and shared his thoughts on the flood in Hindi cinema, criticizing the industry’s tendency to follow tendencies blindly. He also praised South Indian filmmakers for staying genuine to their cultural roots.
Randeep Hooda slams Bollywood
Randeep slammed Bollywood’s ‘bhedh chaal’ (herd mentality), pointing out, “This is a social media trend. One or two re-released films have executed well. It doesn’t mean the all is working. If one issue succeeds, comparable tasks begin getting made. Sabko wahi banaana hai. Abhi sabko Stree ke baad horror comedy banaana hai. As an actor, I don’t think that needs to be the parameter. The industry is dealing with a disaster due to several factors. There’s a number of film execution happening now, not filmmaking. We have isolated ourselves in the ivory tower a bit. There’s little room for experimentation.”
He also expressed that experimentation in storytelling is now frequently possible on OTT platforms. However, he acknowledged that even those platforms prioritize content that attracts a larger target audience and boosts subscriptions, making it a industry-driven area. Randeep hopes to strike balance among mainstream and experimental initiatives, choosing subjects that resonate with audiences.
Randeep Hooda praises South filmmakers
Praising South Indian filmmakers, Randeep Hooda slams Bollywood and mentioned that their storytelling makes a speciality of fundamental human emotions, making their films more relatable. He added, “They are only making our movies, however with more rootedness. Pushpa doesn’t have 6 % abs—he has a beard and a crooked shoulder. Meanwhile, referred to as elite filmmakers and actors are busy constructing abs instead of growing characters. They aren’t making individual-driven movies. But peoples aren’t going to stop looking movies or OTT content—it’s only a segment of transition.”
